The converted Coach House was formerly the owners’ home and is the closest to the heated outdoor swimming pool and tennis court. It has its own indoor swimming pool (18' x 8' x 4' - ‘endless pool’ with variable river flow) and sauna in a separate building just a few yards across the drive it also has a games room (snooker, table tennis, table football). Lovely paved patio (table/chairs, barbecue) and about an acre of garden (partly stepped or sloping, but with large level lawn, sandpit, wooden playhouse).
Inside, well-decorated and furnished, mainly big rooms with many windows (original coach house openings). Comfortable living room with open fire, big arched French windows, TV/DVD. Elegant dining room with arched windows, slate floor, woodburner, piano, glazed door to rear patio. Smart kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, electric/gas range-style cooker, fridge) beech wood table and chairs. Maple-floored den with woodburner, TV and French windows to forecourt. Children’s snug with wood floor, beanbags, toys. Laundry room (washing machine, tumble drier, fridgefreezer, sink). Boot room with shower; loo.
Upstairs, five bedrooms - the master double (mahogany 5' bed) with en suite shower-room (suite), another double (brass 5' bed), a twin, a single, and a children’s room with two sets of 3' bunks; two bathrooms (suites, one with shower over bath).
Heat generated by biomass system.
Arrival after 4pm, departure by 10am.
Tremendous atmosphere, freedom and number of things for adults and children to do.
Outdoor swimming pool available mid May to mid September. Lydford: village (two good food pubs, farm shop, church) on Dartmoor’s western edge, famous for its gorge/waterfall (Nat.Trust, very beautiful walk deep in woods) and ruined medieval castle. Granite Way cycle trail; trout fishing in the Lyd; riding stables locally. Sea/beaches, about 25 miles, north or south coasts. Roadford Lake, 9 miles. Tavistock, 5. Brentor’s tor-top church, 2 miles
